Christmas 1998
Dear Friends,
Ithardly seems possible that eighty eight years have come and gonesince I first entered this world, and , needless to say, I am mostgrateful. Both Good Luck and Dame Fortune have smiled down on me, andupon my family as well. All four of my children are alive and welland all my grandchildren are doing well with their pursuits atschool. Yes, the roll of the dice has favored me!
Hopefullyyou, my friends, are faring as well, though I know that tragedy hasentered some of your lives. Despite this, you are all aware of theresilience of the Human Spirit and that it rebounds after adversity. So, we'll keep on smiling even though it hurts.
AsI assess my state today I am also well aware that many of my friendsand peers are no longer around and that the end of the road may notbe too far away. However, I can take some solace in knowing that oneis living in probably the most important and exciting time in humanhistory. The rate of new discoveries and the rapid spread of newideas is mind boggling and the information highway enables us to livetwo or three lives at once, something our forefathers never imaginedpossible. Yes the world may be more dangerous today than ever beforebut it is also more interesting and challenging . My father insistedthat a man would never walk on the moon and, now, I would not set anylimits on Man's aspirations and achievements.
Patand I keep ourselves busy with endless meetings and social activitiesand boredom is not a problem. In fact, there is not enough hours inthe day to get our jobs done. Though we go south for the winter weare almost as busy there as at home in Manchester. Keeping our mindsand bodies active is probably a factor in our longevity.
Manyof my peers have not explored the world of cybernetics, and , whileone can get along very well without it, there is such excitement andpleasure to be found there.! Presently, I belong to four computerclubs and have enlarged my circle of acquaintances many fold.My newfriends come from all walks of life with varying backgrounds andmakes my life more interesting. User groups are like AA in that theyare addicts and always helping their less informed friends. Meet meat my web site: www.tiac.net/users/cejjrmd or write me at my e-mailaddress: cejjrmd@tiac.net.
AsI said last year my real cause is World Federalism and, hopefully, some day we can live in The United States of the World, built uponthe same federalists principles as our own wonderful USA. There is nopeace without justice, No justice without law, and no law withoutgovernment. These are incontrovertible!. Thus, all that is needed isto accept the idea of an international authority, one based on theForce of Law and not the Law of Force. Einstein said the atomic bombchanged everything in the world except the mind of Man, and thereinlies our problem.
Lastlyit is Pat's and my wish that this Xmas letter finds you contentedwith your lot and looking forward to each sunrise as though yourglass were half full and not half empty.
